Iran's Started its UAV during the 1980-88 war with Iraq. Iran has been investing in several families of attack and multirole UAV since. Over the years, Iran has reported the deployment of target drones and such UAVs as the Mohajer-Family, Ababil-Family, and Of course Sa'egheh-family (As you know Sa'egheh is a very popular name with Iranian Defense establishment!). There are claims that the latest Iranian UAV's are harder to detect, aerodynamically more stable and have longer endrance times.
Iran was one of the first in the world to use UAV's as an attack platform during the Iraq war. Recently it was reported that Mohajer-4 type UAV's has been sold to forces in southern Labanon and has been seen flying over southern Israel. As of 1997 Iranian UAV's were used by the IRIN to shadow USN fleet in the Persian Gulf.

Guidance
Ababil is equipped with shahid noroozi guidance and control system designed and manufactured in Iran.It is composed of two aerial and ground section. The aircraft control is provided with an autopilot system that transfers flight information data to the ground station via a datalink system.
The system is able to launch the aircraft ,perform different maneuvers, fly to30 km range, loiter and simulate air attacks and finally recover the aircraft at a given point. The range will be increased up to 120 Km simply by increasing the output power of the communication system.
THE GROUND STATION
In ground station, the aircraft position and flight condition is displayed. Using these data, the pilot is able to guide and control the aircraft. The computer system shows the aircraft attitude, engine, speed, fuel consumption and emergency recovery signals. Using radar, the tracking and the reading angle to ground station all times during flight.
OPERATIONAL EQUIPMENTS
CCD Tv camera I.R.Charge (Flare) Miss distance indicatore (M.D.I0) this is a system that works based on the acoustic measurment . The distance of the fired bullets from the aircraft geometric center and bullet motion path are measured by the system . This information is displayed in ground station , providing the training officer to
correct the targeting operation until an appropriate level of accuracy is reached. The technical specifications of the
system are follows:
Range ----------------------- All calibre 7.62 mm to 127 mm
Projectile speed ------------- Over Mach. 1.1
Shooting pace ---------------- 6000 shoots/min
Target speed ----------------- 50-200 M/S
system precision ------------- Generally according to the dynamics gauging diagram for each gauge maximum system error in crossed courses, depending on the target speed ± 15% (standard deviation)
